Linking assessments to the course objectives is important for the instructor and the student. When building rubrics, linking the criteria to assignment objectives will help students see what the purpose of the assignment is. It also helps the instructor focus on how the assignment is related to course outcomes.

With the onset of COVID 19 I was asked to transition a course to the online learning format in a very short amount of time. If I were doing the course now, I would definitely be able to do this more effectively through more effective use of technology tools. Some technology tools were made available to us and I have learned how to use some of the features but there are others that I would like to use i the future to better engage students. Building an online community for your course is important to student learning. Students shouldn't be left to feel that they are alone online doing the course. The student has to be aware that engaging in the community is important to their learning in the course. Web based tools are helpful in the development of a community sense that the students will want to engage in.

Consistency in formats, fonts, and even color of font used is very important in helping students learn what you want them to learn. I have developed courses for in person/face to face delivery and I learned in the past that it was also true for those courses. Some of these principles have already been used by the instructional department at my university. Our learning management system has been set up to facilitate this kind of consistency in the overall course map so it is easier to plan our courses around the basic template.
