I enjoyed the section on grading. When I started teaching, I wasn't sure what exactly I could or could not do. It was a good reminder of the importance of keeping the grade book updated and ensuring that your grading scale is clearly outlined. It is a disservice to our students if we only update the grade book at the end of each semester or year.

I took away the most from the time management solutions. It's so easy to get off-topic in conversation. It's hard to disengage when the students are invested in the discussion, but ensuring you go through all the contents is essential. Now, I will say that I have allowed the conversation to take over the class a time or two when it is almost teaching the subject matter.

I enjoyed the refresher on PowerPoint. I don't often use PowerPoint presentations, but I will, in the future, incorporate more lectures into my upcoming classes. I also took away the reminder to keep your presentations and lectures fun. It is hard for students and adults to sit and listen to a person talk; keeping the visuals interactive you maintain their attention.

Bringing industry partners into the classroom is an excellent way to connect learning to life. Besides being a student, my first introduction to a classroom was by being a guest speaker after I opened my first business. It was always interesting to experience the different sets of students. I always wondered what kind of questions they would ask me. When I invite guest speakers, I encourage them to bring pictures of their day-to-day experiences and have a few different questions ( more like fun facts they may not know) prepared to ask the students.

One of the things I struggle with the most is introducing new technology into my classroom. I enjoyed learning more about RMAS transformation enhancement. I'm currently considering incorporating a restaurant simulation into my coursework. It's proving tricky, but it will be a great learning experience for the students and me. I love project based learning!

I loved the idea of using the flipped classroom concept; this concept shows students that learning can be fun and engaging and is not "boring." I also appreciated the templates for lesson planning. These plans make it easy to complete lesson planning promptly. The map and scope clearly show what you and your students can expect for the semester.

I enjoyed the reiteration of how important a plan is in teaching. I think aligning our classes with secondary programs is vital to the success of post-secondary education.

I found the safety information to be a good reminder of our quickly an accident can happen and that we are/can be held liable. I also enjoyed the tips for making students feel welcome. It is easy to forget how terrifying school can be.

My favorite part of this lesson was cultural responsiveness. I loved the idea of defining "respect" with the students because it can mean something different for each student. It also helps explain what others might find disrespectful that some students may not be aware of. This experience helps to eliminate assumptions and stereotyping in the classroom.
