I did not know that the first two years of college and the first few months of the school year were the highest risk of sexual assault.

I learned that criminal investigations and institutional investigations are separate. Even if a criminal investigation does not lead to charges, a school may find violations related to Title IX and/or VAWA and seek disciplinary action.

I learned that Title IX and VAWA covers more than just students and more than just on campus or off campus school events. I did not know that action could be taken even if the victim refused to be involved in the investigation.

Title IX prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in education programs and activities. VAWA provides housing protections for survivors of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and/or stalking.

Using reinforcement, retention, and transference techniques is the best way to be a motivating instructor.

I learned about the REFOCUS tool and the importance of a mid-term survey. I plan to use both in the future.

It is important to treat every student with respect and kindness. Learning a little about each student and treating them as humans and not a number is critical for students well-being. Treating students with mutual kindness and respect will encourage them to do well in the class and reach career goals.

Every student is different and will have unique needs. Learning about each student will help plan the lessons and teach the course.

Using different types of content delivery will keep students engaged and help students with variable learning styles.

I learned that it is very important to learn the students names and a little about them. Also, it is important to share some information about yourself. This can put the students as ease and let them know you care.
