It is important to plan carefully what to include in our online course. We should learn to explore the different technology tools that is in our disposal to enhance student engagement. Also very important to communicate with students from the beginning of the course until the course has ended in order for students to feel that they belong to the class and improve student engagement.

In order to have a successful online course, an instructor must use the syllabus to communicate to the students what is expected from them in the class. Use evaluations and assessments done by students to determine how successful your deliver of the course was.

It is important to determine what type of online teaching must be used to adequately teach students in an online environment. It is very important that for both asynchronous and synchronous learning, there should be consistency and instructions are given to students regarding submission of projects/assignments and establish an FAQ portion in the LMS being used.

There are various technology tools that are available when teaching an online course. It is necessary to use these technology tools by making an assessment on how these tools will help in facilitating learning and achieving the learning outcomes of the course.

It is important to evaluate the online course that you use, and it will need to be multiple evaluations in order to be able to have quantitative and qualitative evaluations of your course.

I have learned about the importance of creating a rubric when assessing learning. Also important to give immediate feedback to students.

I have learned about using different communication tools and electronic tools in order to communicate effectively with students. The instructor will be the one leading the communication and must be clear on instructions. These instructions should be included in the course syllabus.

I have learned that by organizing course topics by content or by dates can help students in easily finding course contents in the learning management system that schools will use. Using video clips are also helpful in reiforcing learning objectives, and it will be helpful to divide them into segments, so that students will not get bored.

When doing discussions, it is very important to be encouraging to students. We must also pay attention to the time limits of the students. Asynchronous discussion better than synchronous.

I learned that you have to relate to your students as if you are with them face-to-face. You have to be the one facilitating the learning environment and be attentive to student questions
