I learned how important it is to establish the guidelines at the beginning of the course and to make the rules of engagement transparent.

Never write in an email that you don't want on the 6 o'clock news.  You will be mistaken if you think these messages are private. Any email can be forwarded to someone else.

Choosing the correct communication tool for the situation seems obvious but actually, I must think through what is the objective and how often and in what method will the student, classmates and instructor interact.  In terms of implementing the tool, I will make sure the audio works sufficiently or that emails are not going to spam. I will set expectations for timeframe for responses.  Asking the students preference can be helpful but whatever tools are being used, training is essential.

I learned that Career Services encompasses more than just helping a graduate obtain his/her first job. I learned that barriers and not just the graduate/job match can play a key roll in whether a graduate gets employed in a timely manner in an appropriate position.  I plan to listen well to be in tune with a student's barriers and in tune with the employers needs.
