In the training we learned that a communication code of conduct should be established and I would of course agree. However it has been my experience that students do not read lengthy rants of text.   I would propose that short bulleted codes of conduct would be more effective than a long disertation on right and wrong.   Do you agree or should I look at this from a different perspective?

In my opinion, students do not participate in the live chat or watch the recordings for several reasons:

1. The do not find the content interesting or engaging , this can be caused by the instructor being dry and just reading off the slides.

2. They have time constraints and they do not see have time to attend the live chat session and/or do not see the value in watching the recording.

3. They are afraid to attend and be asked a question they cannot answer.  Fear of embarrassment.

Has anyone utilized current event articles as a way to engage students? Within the courses I teach, I will post current event articles to our discussion board forum and then faciliate a conversation with students related to article. I try to tie the current event article into our area of focus for the week.

One approach to instruction that I like to use is the mentoring style. With this style I encourage students along the learning process with personalized feed back. I have found that only a small percentage of my students respond as I would expect and become strong indepedent learners. More often I find that leaves my class the same as the way the came in. How can we make our classroom experience more of a transformational process?

When breaking the " ice" during the first class meeting, is it ok to tell jokes? If so, what are some of the jokes you tell?
When facilitating an instructional chat session for an eLearning course, what approach should you take to stimulating student interest? Should you do a question and answer session or should you provide a lecture and then have a discussion surronding the key points?
