Lisa, I wish I could have been there to hear the students doing voice impersonations, sounds like a winner!
Competition works to motivate students to participate. As long as they feel a sense of accomplishment in the end, it is a successful approach.
Great adaption, Amanda. Using simple hands on materials such as tubes and M&M's will clear up any misunderstanding and will keep your learners engaged.
Research has shown by coloring relevant pictures, learners remember the content better and for longer periods of time than just listening to a lecture.

Feel free to adapt this idea to anything that you need to teach that involves supplies. Thanks, Elizabeth!
This is a terrific way to build ownership and student responsibility for learning. Keep up the good work!

Krista, the key is variety, adding new and taking away old as the group works through them. Keep your eyes open for activities that will allow you to mix and match them.

This is a great idea. To build on it, you might also want to google "the incredible, edible cell." You will find instructions on how to do this activity which has the learners build a cell from parts that are candy, so they all end with their own incredible edible cell.

Krista, what a huge complement to you as a teacher. I'd like to be a learner in your class because you are doing all the right things!
The blocks would help to clarify for the visual and kinesthetic learners the more difficult concepts of catabolic and anabolic methabolic reactions. Thanks for sharing this idea.
