Implementing a safety-first culture has to be at the forefront of what we do as instructors. Just as important ant the skills we teach, safety allows students to return home the same way they left the house.

When evaluating student progress, it's important to consider not only grades but participation in personal and group settings. Allowing Rubrics to effectively measure student progress is a great way to allow students to understand why the assessments are made and how their grade is defined.

Students learn in several different ways. Lab learning has restrictions and setbacks like students view or access to lab materials. Virtual labs give students multiple attempts at different activities that tradition labs couldn't due to limitations of materials etc... 

Competency based education focuses more on the application vs the theory behind the application. Competencies can be hard to track because of the different degrees of proficiency involved in the specific skills. 

They both have their place in the world of education. How the instructor perceives the intrinsic and extrinsic motivators of the students plays a major role in the how the class should be structured.

The idea of allowing students to dictate some order to tests, quizzes, and lectures gives them autonomy. about The way they learn gives confidence that they control the outcome of their success. 

The idea behind taking notes after my lecture to see how things went stood out. Constantly improving on my trade by continuous self-monitoring and note taking.

I learned Blooms Taxonomy. Ranking skills from basic to advanced. How learning moves to an understanding and then to the application. 

A binder is a great idea for keeping well organized lesson plans. As you grow as an instructor and as the industry shifts you will be able to pivot your lesson plan accordingly without creating a new plan every semester.

Pretests are a great way to get an overall understanding of the students' knowledge in the area of instruction. Having backup criteria and activities for learning is a great way to overcome the compression factor.
