I learned about TeacherTube, a great resource for instructors to share teaching videos such as lectures and demonstrations to provide a visual learning experience. This resource offers many different resources for free. I will be using this resource moving forward.

Uploading digital files allows students to access the content anywhere, as long as they have an internet connection. This, in turn, allows files to be shared easily and stored in a safe place that cannot be lost like physical copies.

Although it can be challenging to address disruptive behavior, it is necessary to ensure it does not continue.

There are 4 management styles which are the controller, the buddy, the guide and the apathete. The best teaching results are from the guide. There are ways to transition from the other management styles to become a guide which will ultimately lead to the most learning.

There are many barriers that can affect the implementation of active learning such as general, practical, personal and professional. For instance general barriers can be a resistance to change. Practical barriers can be a result of limited class time. Personal can be instructors being scared to fail if the students do not like the active learning strategies. Finally, professional barriers are due to instructors worrying about how their students will view them (reputation), especially amongst students who prefer passive teaching methods.

Active learning differs from passive learning as it moves away from lecture based teaching. Instead students take an active role in their learning such as participating in case scenarios, role play or other class discussions. These help students remain engaged, collaborate, participate and apply what they learn and therefore can apply the theory learned into practical situations.

It is essential to use both subjective and objective assessment methods to ensure the student's understanding of the content. These assessment methods contain different types of questions to ask.

CATs can be used to assess how students are learning by obtaining the student's feedback. Changes to teaching can be made based on the findings.

Institutions are use the Socratic teaching method where teachers are hoping to initiate a discussion about questions that are difficult to answer. Thus, this method ensures questions are promoting learning. This will in turn help promote active engagement and participation.

It is essential to consider different learning styles when teaching to enhance information retention and ultimately set student's up for a successful learning environment by incorporating as many learning styles as possible while teaching. Working in groups is also beneficial as students learn from each other and will get to experience and try their classmate's learning style.
