How candid are your students, Jon? Do you find the quality of their responses falling off in the more advanced phases?
It's encouraging to read your positive assessment of the survey tool and that your students actually provide written comments. Many don't. What is your school doing to encourage this kind of response?
Discussion Comment
How do your students get connected with the tutoring office? What percentage of students are referred and what percentage of them actually use the service?
What's included in the first week student questionnaire, Salma? Who administers it and who is responsible for any indicated follow up?
Discussion Comment
What do you do to assure that the students become engaged? Is the Orientation simply a presentation of the "facts" or do you get them involved?
How do you use the results, Elisa? What improvements in teaching performance or curriculum can you link to this practice?
Discussion Comment
In addition to learning vocational skills, many students also need to learn life skills as well. While it may seem like "spoon feeding", these students don't have role models or access to resources that prepare them for some of the issues that they confront. In many cases, these life skills will serve them far longer than changing technical ones.
Discussion Comment
How much time do your students have between classes? Is it enough to do meaningful tutoring?
Discussion Comment
Based on one of your other postings, how about creating a forum to share best practices and developing a follow up system to keep everyone informed about actions taken to help students?
