Anthony, please share some information about the mechanics of the student union. How are the students selected? Does your school provide money to them? What issues do they address?

Great question, James ... and one that doesn't have an easy answer. One fundamental difference is the age of the students. When a student reaches the age of 18 they are empowered to make confidentiality decisions on their own. Parental consent is required for students attending the local K-12 schools. This protects the student is some odd ways. For example, the college is not free to provide information about attendance and academic performance to parents unless the student has authorized the disclosure - even if Mom and Dad are paying the bill. The manager review is intriguing. How often do they intervene to direct more support for students?

Are the peer tutors paid? How are they evaluated? How long do they retain this position?
How many students does an advisor have? Does a student's advisor change as they move through the program? Is there a training program to prepare faculty for this role?

What triggers the program? How are the students in jeopardy identified?

Is there a central data base where grades, attendance and comments are stored? Who has access to this information for a student? Are there issues about rights to privacy? Is there a warning trigger where the system will notify someone if a threshold is passed?

Does your school have a progression of outcomes? [ex. certificate, diploma, associate degree, bachelor] If so, is the curriculum common for all the offerings, with length of enrollment determining the credential earned?
