Sexual harassment can take many forms.  It is a relief to know that education for the prevention of sexual harassment is mandatory and that institutions must have a Title IX Coordinator to investigate and protect employees/students.

Career learners may be more engaged and remember content better if they can relate it to personal experiences.

Use stories to break up the lecture and keep students interested.  You may consider telling an applicable story every 20 minutes or so.

Get a feel for the classroom and where the students are each day they present for class.  Be creative with how you will engage the students each day.  If you become complacent with teaching, your students may become complacent as well.

Students will have different motivators for learning or enrolling.  It's important to learn what each of your students is motivated by so you know how to provide the best support.

Use a variety of methods.  Keep in mind students can follow 5-7 steps at a time.  You may also consider doing 10-15 minute mini lectures to keep students engaged.

It may be helpful to have students fill out an index card with their identifying information plus something interesting about themselves in order to help you to remember them.  Also, allow the class to get to know one another to facilitate a safe space.

It may be useful to have students sign the second page of a syllabus so that they are providing written acknoledgement of the class expectations.

Keep students engaged with enthusiasm and modeling your interest in the topic.  If you are bored with the topic and show that to your students, they will likely disengage.
