Good topic. I agree with you about powerpoints and do think they are overused.

Recently while teaching in a live chat online, I had a student commend me for not using only powerpoints. She said that her previous instructor would just show powerpoint how tos and she really liked the fact that I was adding in live how to actually do something step by step instead of just listing it in a powerpoint.

I think it is important to make sure that we all don't just go through the motions and that we interact with our students. One student… >>>

Harry,

I agree with you, if some of this was already implemented in high school or secondary education maybe more students would

be more successful in school earlier on. I do think that utilizing iPads and computers for testing can be a problem because one can easily click on the wrong answer and submit so quickly. I have seen my 8th grader do this with iXL homework.

Thanks for your post.

I believe we all use adaptive learning in teaching online courses.

How have all of you made sure that you have incorporated adaptive learning into course content if it is

not already there?

Thanks,

Kelly

Thank you for the attached content. Very interesting, and of course sad that Career Colleges aren't considered a solution.

I appreciate this information.

THanks,

Kelly

Sometimes is and sometimes is not. It is quite hurtful when students decide to slam an instructor when the student is the one that never turned in work, also didn't contact the instructor at all, but yet at the end of the 5 week online class just decides they want to turn everything in. It would be nice to NOT blame the instructor.

Definitely informative. Would love to apply this to designing!

Hi There, So my question is how can a course be built to challenge everyone? If a class is too remedial will this not challenge the students that have this experience and possibly bore them? While I agree that classes need to be made for everyone to use, how can an online class be interesting to an experienced student and a new online student? Thoughts? Thanks, kelly

In an online course I always have Live Chat times that are one hour, Office Hours where students can meet me, and I tell students they can call me anytime between 9am-9pm. While I offer all these times, I often only receive 1 or 2 students who attend or contact me. How do you reach the students that never contact you, but maybe need to? I find that even calling, emailing everyone doesn't work either. I want to make sure that I am available, but at the same time, I want to make sure students will utilize these opportunities if… >>>

Would you allow guest speakers or guest Professors to run critiques in your classroom? Do you think students would benefit from this? Why or why not? Thanks in advance!
