One of the most valuable things I’ve learned is the importance of not being afraid to ask for help or advice. Instructors, by nature, enjoy helping others, and tapping into that support can make a big difference, especially as I continue to grow in my teaching career. I’ve realized that building relationships with instructors across the institution—not just within my own department—can open up new perspectives and resources I might not have considered. Whether it’s learning where to get instructional supplies or discovering new ways to enhance my teaching methods, experienced instructors have a wealth of knowledge to share. I… >>>

Through learning about student monitoring and behavior, I’ve come to realize how important it is to look beyond surface-level actions and understand what my high school Health Science students may be experiencing internally. Monitoring students goes beyond keeping track of attendance or behavior—it involves observing patterns, emotional shifts, and engagement levels. Silent students, for example, may not be disengaged but may need safer, low-pressure ways to participate, such as writing or small group discussions. Thinking breaks will be a regular… >>>

Throughout this course, I’ve developed a deeper understanding of how to manage challenging behaviors in the high school classroom by addressing students’ needs with patience, structure, and purpose. I plan to support these students with clear routines and gentle accountability, like checklists or quick prep reviews. For those who feel ready to give up, I’ve learned the importance of creating a safe space where they feel seen and supported. Encouraging small wins and reminding them of their goals… >>>

As I reflect on this course, I’ve gained several valuable insights that I’m excited to implement with my Health Science students. Understanding the importance of a clear, well-structured syllabus has been a game changer. I now see it as a roadmap, not just for content, but for setting the tone and expectations for the entire course. I’ll ensure my syllabus outlines objectives, timelines, grading policies, and available resources from day one. Being transparent about what is required and expected helps build a respectful, productive learning environment. I’ll clearly communicate what success looks like in the course, both academically and behaviorally.
