Activity

Security comes from clear expectations, consistent support, and knowing that the instructor wants them to succeed, which reduces anxiety and builds trust. Autonomy allows students to take ownership of their learning by participating in hands-on activities, problem solving, and decision making. When instructors balance structure with opportunities for independence, students tend to stay more engaged and committed to completing the program.

Lecture notes help instructors stay organized and guide the flow of the lesson so important topics are covered. Using technology and different support materials can improve student engagement and help connect learning to real-world skills.

Lesson plans are important because they help instructors stay organized and ensure that the material is delivered clearly and effectively during class. They also help manage time by outlining activities, resources, and assessments that support student learning. Planning ahead allows instructors to adjust lessons based on student knowledge and keeps students engaged throughout the class period.

Effective Lesson planning requires understanding what the students already know and building content in a logical way that helps them succeed. It is also important to manage time carefully, because sometimes material takes less or more time than expected during class. Using a variety of educational resources and activities can help keep students engaged and connect lessons to real world application.

Motivating students comes from demonstrating expertise, empathy, enthusiasm, and clarity in the classroom. When students see that the instructor understands the material and can clearly explain how it applies in the real world, they become more engaged and confident in what they are learning.

It is important for instructors to keep their focus on the students and their engagement throughout the course. Students tend to lose attention quickly, so using different teaching methods like discussions, stories, and activities can help keep them interested. Building rapport and encouraging participation helps students feel more comfortable and involved in the learning process.

One thing I learned about student retention is that building relationships with students makes a big difference in their success. Simple things like greeting students, learning their names, and recognizing their progress help them feel respected and supported. Adult learners also stay more engaged when they can actively participate and see how the material connects to their goals.

After reviewing the material on understanding student characteristics, I learned how important it is to recognize that every student comes into the classroom with different experiences, learning styles, and levels of confidence. Some students may be hands-on learners, while others learn better through reading, discussion, or visual demonstrations. As instructors, it is important that we recognize these differences so that we can create an environment where all students have the opportunity to succeed.

A varying teaching style helps when delivering instruction. I prefer a Multimodal teaching style as it combines several instructional methods, and reaches students who learn in different ways.

One thing that I have learned is that students' anxiety often decreases when they clearly understand the expectations and outcomes of a class. A well-structured syllabus that outlines objectives, assignments, and grading criteria creates transparency and builds confidence. When expectations are clear, students can focus more on learning and less on uncertainty.
