If students struggle to maintain civility in the course, I like the idea suggested that they "[b]e required to provide a research paper on cheating or unethical behavior and/or letter of apology." Having students go so far as to think through and write in response to the cheating or unethical behavior may students prove more helpful than warnings and even failing one assignment.

It can be tempting to use technological tools that I believe will be effective in communicating with students, but like this course is teaching us, it is important to get assessments from students to confirm the strengths or reveal the weaknesses of those tools.

I appreciate the alliteration of origin, organization, organization, and orchestration to help remember all the necessary components needed in building a successful online learning environment for students.

I never thought about doing less of the discussion leading as the term goes on and allowing students to lead the discussions instead, but I can see how that allows me to mentor and facilitate and empower them to lead.

Because asynchronous learning does not happen in a physical building at a specific time, it is that much more imperative to be organized and obvious in clarifying where everything is in the virtual classroom to ensure student success.

Wikis are another way to engage students. Though I employ different means of instruction and ways to help students, I can see the value of using a shared and evolving resource with students via wikis.

I gained from the "closing the loop" idea presented. If I do not see the link between "planning and assessment of student learning outcomes," I will not be able to effectively drive academic learning.

It is important to remember that formative assessments don't just monitor student comprehension; they help instructors know how they should tailor their teaching to help students.

When I have my students do discussions, I tell them WHAT to discuss, but I need to remember to also tell them HOW to discuss rather than assume that the process is self-explanatory.

Regarding the "modality effect," it is important to remember that I cannot expect text to be the only way to reach students. Diversifying by way of text and sound and video, etc. will be optimal.
