Student motivation often depends on the instructor. If the instructor is consistently knowledgeable, enthusiastic, communicative, and motivational it helps keep and retain student attention and enthusiasm as well.

I plan to use different learning styles when teaching. Not just discussing the material but bringing my own experiences and asking the student for their perspectives and experience as well.

Being enthusiastic about what you're teaching is key to not only grabbing but also keeping their attention.

Knowing and understanding your students will not only help you teach them but will also help you to be a better instructor. 

Many of the points for giving a lecture I had already planned to incorporate into my own to help grab and keep their attention, but one I didnt consider was how to avoid a cold start. 

Introducing yourself and telling your professional background will help not only establish you as a good leader but also they can trust that what you're teaching is relevant

I think a checklist would work well for me. I got in the habit of using them in the military and found that incredibly helpful then and will likely use that now.

professionalism is key as a teacher, it lets the students know what to expect.

Learning challenges and learning preferences should both be identified and worked with your students to ensure their success.

I better understand the difference between language and literacy and why it is important for helping students have better outcomes.
