I liked the horse reigns analogy video. I agree the more you try to control and force learning the harder it is to effectively communicate ideas. Letting the students drive subject related conversations can be an effective way to get participation from more students.

I think knowing and understanding students will assist in their education as well as the instructors ability to relay what is being taught. If an instructor can address the needs of students effectively, learning will become easier.

I learned 5-7 steps is about how many steps someone can remember before loosing information. Also micro lessons are more effective than bulk chunk lessons.

I believe that the first meeting is extremely important. As discussed it sets the tone for the rest of the class. Meeting the individual students at the door is a new concept for me. I have not personally experienced it in my personal education.

I think that the checklist is an incredible resource for an instructor. I can see how it would be useful in multiple areas during discussions, setting up a classroom, getting ready for hands on projects, or even updating grades.

I believe that having a detailed syllabus would foster a climate of professionalism, organization, and expectations.

Professionalism and enthusiasm set the tone for students as well as peers. Often times in classes that I have been in the instructor was monotone and not very convincing.

I've learned to support students with disabilities, offer support through the appropriate channels.

I was intrigued by the universal design. This methodology seems like it should be the standard across the board.

I agree that access doesn't always equal success. I believe success is up to the individual.

I believe that understanding or having a basic knowledge of disabilities is fundamental to someone in a teaching capacity. Not only does it help the student but it helps the instructor communicate more efficiently. This in turn creates a more effective learning environment

I learned that these are guidelines, ie a floor to what must be done. Obviously as educators there is the possibility to do more however I now know what reasonable accommodations actually are.
