John, awesome example of what is best in our sector of higher education. Not all institutions would take the time and individual attention to progress the student to the level you have accomplished. Thanks for sharing and thanks for all your efforts as a professional. James Jackson
Dana, graduation ceremonies are among the most valued activities of any educator. This is where you can truly see the fruits of your labor. James Jackson

Linda, great example. Students get frustrated by many things but do they have the skill set to know how to cool down and refocus? Some will and some will not. It is our role as instructors to know our students and know who may need some additional skills training on how to manage their emotions. James Jackson
Jennifer, well stated. Nothing ticks students off more than instructors that have a sense of entitlement or they give off an expectation that trust and respect is expected simply due to their title. The educational landscape is changing and has already changed and instructors have to work hard for the respect and trust of their students. Has nothing to do with if this is the right way or the wrong way, it is just the way it is. James Jackson

Shelle, great job in pairing up your students. When your curriculum allows, it may also be beneficial to put two lower self-esteem students together as they may also feed of each other and help each other break out of their shells. By providing a mixture of pairings, students get the maximum benefit of working through many different scenarios they may experience in the "real-world". James Jackson

Pamula, the technique you describe about allowing students to earn some of their points back for test corrections. I have found this to be a best practice in that it aligns well with research on student learning outcomes and student connectedness to the curriculum and a particular course. By learning from their mistakes you can break down a lot of barriers and the end result is a better prepared student for the next level of learning. Our industry needs to do more research on this technique but I have seen first hand how beneficial such feedback can be to student… >>>

Jeff, can you share any research you have reviewed on your statement concerning lack of preparation as the primary cause of a mental block versus other forms of test anxiety? I am sure such research would be of great value to other readers. Greatly appreciate any information you can share. James Jackson
