Activity

Daniel, well stated. Students can easily tell when an instructor is not excited about a topic they are teaching. By teaching the topics you are really interested you will provide a much better exprience for the student overall. James Jackson
Dixie, what actions do you take to constantly improve your skills and stay on top of the learning curve with respect to the latest research in teaching and learning methodologies? James Jackson
Virginia, thanks for providing this information. Do you also perform any type of evaluation on why students missed specific questions? For example if more students missed question 5 than any other question what type of analysis goes into evaluating that specific question? Should the question be rewritten, removed or should the lesson plan be changed to better provide resources for students to learn the desired outcomes. Thanks again for any information you can provide. James Jackson
David, can you describe your method of how you prepare students for the various assessments in your class? Thanks for any information you can provide. James Jackson
Dixie, what other incentives do you provide them about what they will gain from mastering their writing skills? I have found that many students are not aware how good writing skills can impact their chance of getting a good job, keeping a good job and moving up the ladder of success. Those with highly effective communication skills tend to make the most money eventually. James Jackson
Chemo, can you elaborate a bit on how the change in your teaching style keeps your students engaged? Anything you can provide as to how you measure engagement would be in great interest to other readers. Thanks for anything you can share. James Jackson
edward, interesting approach and I like how you take the time to review how your students reacted to the quiz and then make an educated decision to use the quiz in the grading. What actions do you use to discuss the responses and to have the students gain new knowledge from the quiz results? James Jackson
James, the role of the instructor is to stay on track with the lesson plan. If no one is getting it then alterations must be made. If a few are holding the class back then this is where the instructor has to be strong and continue moving forward. After class meetings or tutoring is a realistic part of the entire learning puzzle. Collaboration with the administration and peer instructors is also a vital tool. James Jackson
Matthew, you have a valid point. What discussions do you engage with your students that seem to have a sense of entitlement? Learning the deeper rooted motivations or expectations of such students can be very beneficial in understanding your students. I would also be interested in how you establish the expectations of your students early in the class. I have found it critical to discuss my expectations and understanding their expectations as early as possible. James Jackson

Rae Lynne, what an awesome story and thanks for sharing. Taking students out of their comfort zones is part of the teaching and learning process. Always playing it safe rarely yields quality results. James Jackson
