Timothy, do you ever share your experiences as a student with your students? Sharing your own experiences can sometimes give them confidence that they are following a good track and can accomplish the required tasks of the course as you are a living example. Sharing of such information can also enhance the security students feel within your classroom as they gain confidence that you know how best to direct them since you shared similar experience when you were in their shoes. Dennis, your statement leads me to believe you are a true educator versus a teacher. Educators do what they do because it is a calling. If income were not of any importance and educator would still be involved with transferring their knowledge to others. Some teach because it is a means to an income, other educate because it is what they are driven to do. James Jackson
Melissa, well stated. Sharing your knowledge is what teaching is all about. Not about knowing everything or always having all the answers but transferring your knowledge to your students. Thanks for sharing. James Jackson
Linda, allowing your students multiple times through the examination engine is a great way to build confidence and get students more familiar with the testing methodology. Many students fear the unknown and by providing a repetitive process you give them comfort and security that they can learn in your environment. Great job and thanks for sharing. James Jackson
Craig, how often do students get exposure to instruments that are similar to how end of course exam is setup? A best practice would be for students to already be experienced with the testing format even though the questions may be different. James Jackson
Janet, a good guide will know when to take control and when to give control back to the students. Do not think of this as switching roles, it is all part of being a good guide and overall instructor. James Jackson
Jodie, well stated. Think back to when you were a student and what were the traits of your favorite instructors? Often times we forget our own needs as students when we become instructors so a little reflection is good and makes for a better instructor overall. James Jackson
Virginia, what would you say are your intrinsic and extrinsic motivators? Thanks for anything you can share. James Jackson
Chemo, having such diversity in the classroom is a true blessing and allows you to engage students in ways that would be difficult in a more homogenous setting. Placing students into these diverse groups better prepares them for the real-world and the types of actual experiences they are most likely to encounter. I would also recommend you discuss this with your students so they realize how fortunate they are to be in a classroom with such diversity. James Jackson
