Outstanding response Wilfredo. You have provided a great list of successful traits and working styles. I am interested in what actions you take within your classrooms to ensure you are leading by example for your students and exemplifying the traits you have listed and the working styles you have provided? It is always good practice to invite fellow faculty members into your classroom to provide you with their input and any suggestions they care to provide with respect to your overall effectiveness. Every faculty member is evaluated at some point in their career; the frequency really depends on the institution… >>>

Another great series of comments Mark, good job. Really like your approach to building rapport through identifying likes and dislikes. Also like how you apply application to your lessons and provide your students with feedback on the SUCCESS stories. According to Dr. Joe Pace of The Pacific Institute, it takes at least 11 positives to make up for just one negative so the more positive stories of success you can provide, the more your students will walk away from your class with a positive attitude and positive self-talk. As I am sure you would agree, positive self-talk can be a… >>>

Thanks for your response Mark. Great story about challenges becoming fun and persisting to accomplish goals. Would be very interesting to talk with this student and discover what type of Self-Talk she went through in order to allow her to be successful. All too often, this is not the end result however and students seem to find any excuse to self-sabotage their efforts to complete their degree or educational goals. As instructors, it is critical we watch out for the signs and those “red-flags” that can appear so we can be that “guide-on-the-side” that many students need to be successful.… >>>

Justin, great response and very detailed. Video tapping is a great tool and one I have used in the past and use to this day. It is also a good way to have others review your techniques and allow them to provide feedback that can make you a better instructor and more importantly a better guide for your students. Thanks for providing such detailed information on how you managed the distrustful student. Such information will be of great value to others taking this course and are looking for real world examples of effective classroom methodology to handle similar situations. I… >>>

Great response Shawnie. Keeping students on track during group activities is the most common topic of discussion I have received over the years. The section on group activities provides some great concepts to keep in mind and I also love your comment on using more advanced students to assist in leading discussions and keeping the lesson on track. Always remember to focus on what takes place the first day of class and set the stage early and announce to students that group activities are part of the course. This will give them time to adapt and accept that they will… >>>

Outstanding response. Too few instructors today focus on the importance of how diverse a classroom can be in today’s environment. Regardless of traditional classroom delivery or delivery within an eLearning portal, the focus on the student and communicating with a clear message that includes appropriate humor and other “edutainment” qualities is key to student success and student retention. Thanks for your comments and please let me know if I can assist you in any way. Recards James
