About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Jarred, You have a good plan developed for your instructional planning. Keep up the good work of seeing the big picture and then breaking down the concepts to get to the specifics. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Dee, Good examples of how to engage students and help them see a future for themselves not only as being successful in the course but successful in their future career. Keep up the good work of encouragement. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Mia, This is a valuable service to offer your students. You are expanding their options throughout their educational journey so they think beyond just the career area they are in. The more options the greater their satisfaction is going to be with what they are receiving as an education. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Rhina, Passion for your field and excitement about being able to share the information and skills related to the field is an important part of teaching. You are right on with your comments. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Ian, I like your approach. My older students are much like yours so they need some early course success so they can build their confidence. I really enjoy teaching them as they are goal oriented and focused on creating career opportunities for themselves. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Barbara, I agree with your comments as I teach from 4 until 10 pm. This is a long time to keep students engaged so it takes a lot of planning and creativity to keep their focus. I enjoy my evening classes because I have such dedicated students to give up an evening after a day's work to further their career opportunities. It is exciting for me to help them toward their life goals. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Jenna, Very true. Mutual respect and development of rapport are two key ingredients to this process. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
George, If your students don't have a lot questions and you feel they understand your policies, requirements and assignments then you are covering the essentials with your syllabus and that is sufficient. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Nestor, Nicely put. I hadn't thought of it that way. Thanks. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Barbara, I can appreciate your comments about having options available for different student groups. I do the same with my classes. I meet the classes share the syllabus which covers all of the course policies and requirements. We do introductions, I give a pretest and the we do ice breakers. Once all of this is completed I then decide exactly what assignments I am going to use because I have a clear picture of my students. This allows me to customize my instruction to my current group of students. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
