About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Terry, Simple, forthright and correct. They have to put forth the effort if they are going to be successful. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Rommel, Current students like to hear about previous students and the successes they have had. I bring in graduates to speak to my classes so students can see how and where their careers can take them if they are willing to put forth the effort. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Jumana, This is a positive way to lay a solid foundation for your students. Let them know from the very beginning what the expectations are so they can see how they can plan their success in the course. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Dr. Enrique, How do you do this with your classes? Will you share some strategies with us? Thanks. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Tim, Right you are. How do you make a statement for your classes? Thanks for your input on this. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
David, This can be a common problem with learning groups. They need to be created in such a way that each student is evaluated based upon their contributions and not hurt by those that don't contribute. Thanks for raising this issue with us instructors. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Aisha, This is a good way to show students the relevancy of what they are learning and how it will impact their future career success. They need to see that there is an ROI for them if they will become invested in the practice where they work and become part of the team. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Tim, The connection between the course and the work world is always an important component of the educational process. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Christie, You are right on about the need for instructors to make positive first impressions in order to establish a connection with students and start earning their respect. It is a building effort from there on to the benefit of everyone. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Daniel, Right you are. Thank you for making this point because new instructors often forget this most important planning effort. They need to have things set up, be organized and have a class opening that gets everyone comfortable with each other. As you say this sets the tone for the rest of the class sessions.
