About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Terry, Well said. It is a mutual learning opportunity that exists in the classroom. We instructors learn right along side of our students. Everyone benefits and it is a win win for all those involved. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Amos, Thank you for the kind words. I am so excited for you and your teaching success. I know your are going to enjoy teaching even more as a result of the planning your are doing with your classes. Keep up the good work. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Liset, Right you are. It is the document that guides the content, expectations and requirements of the course. It needs to be clear and concise so all students will follow it throughout the course. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Antoinette, I like the way you have created a focal point in your class. This is much like the notes posted on the frig in homes. The students know that to keep up with the latest they need to be readers of the board. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Noah, This is a great way to gain insight into your students. Having this information enables you to provide support and encouragement in a very targeted manner. Thank you for sharing this strategy with us. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Vance, I agree with your comments about the necessity to professional in all aspects. Language, dress, conduct all contribute to the model that you want to set before the students. Your professionalism is what they are going to measure themselves against and it needs to be of the highest standard. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Carol, Right you are. This is why it is so important to reinforce the needed content in different ways so the students can get it stored in their working memories for later use. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Loretta, Activities and change of pace in the class helps to keep students engaged. You are right on with your varied approach. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Eileen, You can learn some of this information without seeming to pry into their lives with the method you just described. I sit down with my students individually and ask them what supports to they need to be successful. I tell them I will try to provide the needed supports if they will give me the effort needed to be successful. I get a lot of sharing with this approach. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Gino, We use BB in my school as well and I find that it is a great resource for sharing supplemental materials with my students and keeping them current on deadlines. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
