About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Guillaume, Good strategies to reach your students. Work on refining your different techniques and deliveries and you will do fine as an instructor. Keep the content relevant, show them application and bring your passion to the classroom and/or lab and you will have a great experience as a teacher. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Tabitha, Right you are. Students must see the ROI for themselves in relation to relevancy and application of content. If they can't then their interest and engagement is going to drop off quickly. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Christopher, It is essential that you have clear goals and objectives identified for your students. If not there is going to be a lot of frustration as you know. Good approach in terms of keeping them informed. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Anthony, You have a very balanced approach to your instruction. You are engaging your students in a number of different ways that enable them to focus on the content and skills of the field. This is what teaching is about. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Tabitha, Good definition. It speaks to being a life long learner and effective communicator of knowledge with a human side. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Michael, Good points about how we all internalize the information and skills that were being offered to us. The more we can see relevance and application the greater the retention is going to be. Same for our students so we need to continually make it "real" for them. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Kizzy, Knowing you have passion for your field and the fact that you get to shape the lives of students through your instruction is a powerful motivator for them. Enthusiasm is catching as you know so continue to spread it to your students. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Kizzy, Good point about the "Big Picture" aspect. Without it many of our students will continue to follow the failure trail and that benefits no one. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Bobbi, Rapport and respect between and among students is a powerful motivator and the more we can help them develop a support network the greater their success is going to be. Good point for us all to remember. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Kizzy, You received good advice in your program and you are sharing it with your students. They need to know they have your support if they are willing to put forth the required effort and you are doing that through your outreach efforts. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
