About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Mark, So true and so often missed by many students. This is "real world" preparation for "real world" success. Simple to say but difficult for many to grasp. They have to bring effort to class each time they enter. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Tom, By doing so you are increasing the engagement and focus of your students. This is critical in the learning process and the more you are able to vary your instructional delivery the higher the content retention is going to be. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Kisha, How do you go about selecting the different methods as you switch up your delivery? Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Tabitha, You make a very good point that we all need to remember as instructors. We need to "sell" ourselves and our field from the first day forward. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Kisha, What are some ways you have found to draw out what the students are bringing to the class their life experiences? How do you integrate these life experiences into your instructional delivery? Thanks for you input on this. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
William, Good point. If we make it a part of our memory processing we can use it almost every day. This is what connects all forms of education together but many students don't see that as you well know. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Amer, Thank you for the step by step layout of processing that you have shared with us. I know this will be helpful to other instructors as well. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Amer, Great plan you have developed for yourself as you strive to increase your instructional effectiveness. I am sure with these strategies you are going to be able to maximize your time with your students and they will take away both the content and skills needed to be successful. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Kizzy, Thanks for sharing your student survey results with us. I think they reflect what most students are thinking when it comes to motivation and reflecting on what is an engaging instructor. As we plan our own professional development we need to keep these comments in mind. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Billie Kay, This is a good way to get "buy in" from students as the course progresses. They get to share their knowledge and preparation through their presentations. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
