About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Fidencio, Honesty in delivery and passion about the content helps to "sell" a course to students. Good point. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
JoAnn, I agree with you about the cellphones. In my class they are stored away and are not to be seen-period. (Exception being a personal emergency). This greatly reduces distractions because younger students are so intent on checking their phones frequently that when they don't have them in their hands they just sit there and look at me because they don't have anything in their hands to distract them. This is when I jump on the teachable moment and we move the class forward. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Peggy, Student centered instruction is what we should be about. You have illustrated that through your comments about being an outstanding educator. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Nicole, I like the way you lay out professionalism. These three items are the core from which instructors should operate. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Colby, Yes it is. You are setting the tone for the class by sharing with the students a well prepared and informative syllabus. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Curtis, Spoken like a true veteran of education. Good list and one that new instructors need to keep in their minds at all times. Thanks for sharing it with us. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Autumn, Great strategy to use early on in your teaching career. This is going to help you to expand your expertise and become more effective and efficient in your instructional delivery. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Maria, Good plan. What are some other ways you can help your students in being a role model for them? Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Richard, Based upon the expressed interest in lesson planning from instructors like yourself I just completed writing a course on this topic. It is ED 109. Look the course over and if you have a chance work through it. It will give you a plan for planning your lessons and engaging your students. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Kimberly, I like your comments about instructional professionalism which leads to your last sentence. This is what it is all about. We have to hold them to a high standard if they are going to be successful in their field. This is why all the work you go through in your previous statements are so critical. You are going to help them be successful if they are willing to put forth the effort. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
