About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

John, Good way to get to know your students. This informal method gives you a "feel" for the students and then you can plan your instructional delivery from there. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Ezra, This is a good strategy to use in expanding the learning preference options to your students. This way you are going to have more student engagement. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Joseph, I use food as well. I find that not only is food a good reward but also when we are eating our snacks the students relax and we have more informal interaction which increase the development of rapport. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
James, I think helping students to see that their previous life experiences play an important part in their current educational efforts. Sometimes they think are starting with no experience when in fact they are college students with many experiences that will help them be successful. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Alex, This is a good point. The students need to have a role model in their instructor that reflects the standard of the field. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Nicole, As you know students really like stories from the field. These stories help the students to make the connection between course content and the work world. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Judy, This creates such a strong foundation for motivation when you have the emotional factor of animals and animal care introduced into the learning process. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Discussion Comment
Kara, Focus is an important part of teaching. You make a good point about identifying what is pertinent and how to keep the class forward focused and on topic. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Vance, Good reminder for us all. Stay fresh and excited about what we are teaching and it will be reflected by our students. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Kimberly, Love your motto because it is essential that this motto be internalized by instructors. Each class session is critical to the total learning process of students and we have to believe that as we prepare for the class. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
