About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Nancy, This brings the "real" factor into the class. By sharing these experiences with each other the students learn that they have a person teaching them that has had real world experiences which helps them to understand why you are teaching the content you are. You are showing them the way to career success. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Curtis, This is because you are giving them a glimpse into their future. They get excited about that and that increases their learning engagement. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
John, I agree. Two things trust and respect go a long way in establishing a positive learning environment. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Nancy, Good strategy to follow in developing rapport. The connection between instructor and students based upon respect and trust makes the rewards of teaching well worth it. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Curtis, Right you are. There has to be a connection between the student and the instructor if rapport is going to be developed. Good point. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Bill, How do you maintain trust with your students? Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Nancy, I use them a lot in my classes as well. They really reinforce what I am teaching and show the students what they can accomplish once they graduate. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Ladansa, I am always amazed when students realize that much of what they are learning in the classroom can be used out in the real world. This brings the "WOW" factor out for the students. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Ladansa, Yes, it is. The students need to see the connection between the course content and their future. When they do they strive for success at a much higher level. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
John, Great to hear. Knowing that the instructor has passion about his field goes a long way in helping students to connect with the content. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
