About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Richard, Great quote and so accurate. We need to know our destination if we are going to know we have arrived. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Richard, You are offering a balanced approach to your instruction and I commend you for doing so. You are showing them how to support their learning through the keeping a personal planner, note taking, etc.. These are tools that will enable them to be successful in the course if they are willing to put forth the effort. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Rodney, So true. Extra is what it is all about. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Edward, Thank you for sharing these different instructional strategies with us. They I know will be helpful for other instructors. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Kelley, Right you are about needing to create a connection between the students and yourself. They need to respect you and have confidence in your ability to communicate with them effectively before they will open up and start asking questions. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Edward, Right you are. When students realize that they can take their new found knowledge and skills out into their communities and apply them to their lives they get really excited that they are being taught "useable" content. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
John, Been there in terms of not being supported by my college in relation to equipment or supplies I needed. Did the best that I could with what I had and then worked with my students on how to overcome this situation. It was a teachable moment if you will in terms of working through challenges in the workplace. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Tammy, Thanks for sharing your personal example of how through instructor support you were able to complete your formal education and become a teacher. This is inspiring for students to know. They know you have been where they are. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Kimberlee, You make a good point about resources and sharing them with the students. The more support they see as being available the more encouraged they become in terms of being successful. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Joanne, Yes they will look at it closely. There needs to be clear ROI for the students as they work through the course. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
