About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Juliana, Good strategies. I know you are going to be very pleased with the results you achieve with these efforts. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Billie, It really is. These two fields help the students to have a foundation from which to operate as they enter the medical field. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Tram, What are some ways you do both of these efforts? Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Discussion Comment
Todd, I like to use them as well. They give great insight into how to focus your instructional planning and content. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Evelyn, This is so important in the learning process. The more connecting of the dots you can do for your students the more applications and relevancy they will see in the content. This gets them motivated to learn even more and the class really takes off. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
QUINTIN, What are some strategies that work for you in engaging your students? Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Jessica, I have found that by selecting a low risk activity using technology where my older students can have success gets them excited as well as comfortable in starting to use more technology. I do this in a game format so they have fun while learning how to do a search or perform a function. I also team my students up so the younger are working with the older and they are helping each other. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Cindy, One I use a lot is Family Feud. My students look forward to Jeopardy and Family Feud as we get toward the end of a unit because they know we are going to play them for review. They get ramped up playing the Feud because they get to work together in coming up with the answers and they like the team approach. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Pamela, A simple statement that can save instructors from so much grief. We need to live by it. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Dianne, So to hear that as well. My humor is great with my students when I mix it with brownies or pizza, in other words the food makes my humor better because the students are filling their stomachs so my humor isn't as important to them. We have a good time anyway. So carry on and some day I may get to see you doing standup somewhere. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
