About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Eric, Common sense tells you that a positive first impression is a must but often instructors get so busy preparing they forget about the first day of class and how it impacts students. You make good points about how instructors need to approach this first day. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Karen, Good point and one that is important to make the first class meeting. This sets the students up for success as they see how the course will unfold for them in the coming weeks. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Paula, It sure does. A good first impression creates a foundation upon which to build for the rest of the course. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Roxanne, This approach helps the students to see you as a qualified experienced professional educator that is dedicated to their educational growth. This sets the stage for learning success. Gary Dr. Gary Meers

Ted, Good point and important for us to do the first day. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Eric, Thank you for this great example of the value of clear goals and objectives. The real value of the exercise was burned into the minds of each soldier the second day and I am sure never forgotten. This is so true for educators as well. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Ethel, Sounds like a very engaging approach. Keep up the good work because you are helping the students to personalize the course content. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Eric, You have some very interesting courses to teach. Being located in a land locked western state I find them exciting to learn about so I know by bringing enthusiasm to the classroom you can get your students engaged in the learning process. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Gayle, You have touched upon critical elements in terms of being a professional educator. Organization and preparedness are essential. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
