About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Mark, I agree. They need to feel a sense of accomplishment over and over again throughout the course. The small or short term goals help them to have such feelings. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Catherine, I wish you much teaching success. Enjoy the interaction with your students and look for ways to increase your expertise in teaching and before you know it you will be feeling very comfortable in the classroom. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Paula, Don't get to in-depth at the beginning because instructional planning does take time. So be prepared to teach the entire course but concentrate on several areas that need the most planning. The next time you teach the course pick some other areas and this way you will work through the complete planning process while teach the class several times. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Karen, By bringing balance to the classroom in your delivery you will be able to reach the different learning preferences of your students as well as keep them engaged. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Kelly, Good way to continue your professional growth by giving and receiving feedback. This way the students know what they need to work on and you know what you need to do the next time you teach the class. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Mark, I agree. This is a good way of seeing a wide variety of approaches that you can use in the your efforts. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Michael, Nice reverse approach to getting your content into the minds of your students. They get to do something and the learn the reasons why. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Dean, Good example of successful teaching. Thanks for sharing it with us. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Abdul, Students like to hear their instructor's success stories. These stories help to make the content more real for them. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Rhonda, You are right about the need for student engagement. Knowing that someone cares about them and their success is important to their retention and effort in the course. The more engagement we can offer the greater their success is going to be if they will put forth the effort. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
