About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Lilia, Stories like this help to make the content relevant to them and their career goals. They really perk up when they get to see that there is application to what is being taught. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Bobbi, Students really like to solve problems or do case studies. The more you can use them the more engaged students will be. Thanks for sharing this strategy with us. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Jumana, A good listening instructor is a very valuable resource when it comes to student success. They know you care about them and their success so they will share with you knowing you will listen. Then you can move them forward in terms of course content and progress. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Antoinette, I think stories of your own experiences serve to connect the students with the course content and help them reflect on how they want to develop their own careers. Also, the stories help them to see the relevance and application of the content they are being taught. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Holly, Sounds like you have a very clear set of standards you use in managing your classroom. The students know what the requirements are and how they need to conduct themselves in the class. This knowledge will be very valuable to them later on in their careers. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Yolanda, For sure. Excitement is catching. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Rhonda, I like an enthusiastic and dedicated instructor as well. I like being around such professionals as their enthusiasm is catching. We need to bring such an attitude each and every time we step into the classroom. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Barbara, It is extremely helpful. Sharing and idea exchanges enrich teaching expertise. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Antoinette, I like your approach. You are helping your students to answer the age old question of "How do you eat an elephant?" Answer: "One bite at a time." By giving them strategies for getting their problems completed you have shown them the way to success, rather than just giving them 20-30 problems and telling them to get them done by next week. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Gayle, I think I may have downloaded the same template. It is easy to use and my student love playing the game when we do review. The template makes it almost like we are playing the real Jeopardy game minus Alex. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
