About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Jessica, I commend you for the use of different strategies and deliveries with your students. Often as you well know students do not appreciate foundational or core courses. Finding ways to get them engaged and focused on the content is always a challenge. Looks like you have found a formula that is really working for you. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Iwayemi, Good list of strategies for engaging students and keeping them focused on the course. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Jesse, Good point and the reason we need to offer learning opportunities through different venues. The more variety the more engagement we will have. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Marla, Good way to create unity in your program. You tell them what they will be learning and then do a learning check at the end of the day. This is a great form of accountability for the students. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
ZULFIKARALI, Good strategy. Students need to make a connection between course content and application. Both are essential for career success so the more expertise and knowledge they have the more successful they are going to be. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Jesse, The human factor in teaching is essential. You are creating a setting for the development of rapport with your students through the connections you are developing. Keep up the good work. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Diana, This is the foundation for the development of rapport with the students. The more you all know about each other the more you have to work with in the classroom and labs. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
William, Good to hear about how you are "reading" your students and identifying strategies that are working for you. This is what makes teaching fun for everyone. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Marla, Stories from instructors help to make the course content relevant and students like to hear the different ways situations can be handled. Good motivators as well. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
ZULFIKARALI, Good strategy to make the activities relevant and practical for the students. In addition, with the rotations you are giving them opportunities to learn how to work with others, an essential component of a successful career. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
