Jim, Thank you for these great comments on how to approach the classroom in a way that engages and supports each member of the class. I know what you mean about a good feeling when a student that has struggled in school earns a grad in the A - B range and the feeling they have as a result. This is why we keep coming back to the classroom. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Stacy, Thank you for sharing your beginning instructional experience. I know this information will be valuable to beginning instructors. I commend you for hanging tough and regaining control of the class and enabling your students to learn what they needed to from the course. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Carl, This is a good way to show the students the value of their syllabus. By referring to it throughout the course you are showing them that they need to refer to it on a regular basis so they will know what the course expectations are. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Don, Right you are. How do you set the stage in your classes for a positive first impression? Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Carol, Good point about the value of the syllabus. A well prepared syllabus does reduce the questions and frustrations because the course requirements are there in front of them at all times. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Don, Knowing you have prepared content that is relevant and current and offering it in a variety of ways will engage the majority of the students. Knowing you are always professional in your approach also adds to the value of your teaching and will get the attention of the students. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Bryan, Thank you for sharing your experiences as a new instructor and how you developed into a professional and comfortable professional. I know this information will be valuable to beginning instructors. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Vladimir, Like the quote because it is really reflective of what we must do as educators. Planning and more planning helps us to reach the goal our students need to reach. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Kelli, You have a great professional development plan in place. I like the way you are expanding your knowledge and expertise in a number of different areas. Keep up the good effort, your students are constantly benefiting from it. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
