About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

James, This is a good way to help the students with the development of their critical thinking skills. They need to be able to problem solve and you are helping them to acquire the steps needed to do so. The questioning format of teaching is a good way to motivate and challenge students in their learning. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Monika, I am a big supporter and user of service learning. It is a valuable tool for connecting students with the real world as you mention. It builds on their skills and lets them develop expertise in the field. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Robin, Good point about bringing the human factor into your instructional delivery. You got to where you are as a result of life and career experiences and by sharing them the students learn the value of the content you are bringing into the class each time it meets. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Darcie, These student statements say it all about the type of teacher you are. You are bringing your A game to class each time it meets and your enthusiasm about your topic is catching. The key we all need to remember that even though we have been through this many times it is the first and only time for that group of students thus we need to keep your excitement level high. Keep up the good work. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Monika, I am excited for your next class and how you integrate variety into your instructional process. I wish you continued teaching success and great feedback from your students. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Robert, So true and well said. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
William, A critical part of instructional planning for sure. The more we know about students the more accurately we can customize our instruction. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Cynthia, This is why we need to bring our A game to the classroom each time we teach. If we aren't excited them it is for sure our students won't be. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Michael, I like this approach because it helps the students see a concept in a concrete way. This makes it easier when you are moving from concrete to abstract content. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Robert, This is very important. Students should not have to guess as to what the outcomes are for the course. The syllabus and class introduction should make the expectations clear for them. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
