About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Julie, You are truly a life long learner based upon your comments. You are excited about being a teacher even if it is a subject that you are not the most excited about. This shows that you are truly a professional educator that is dedicated to her field. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Mandy, Thank you for your story about your 8th grade biology teacher, Mr. B. I love stories like this because the reinforce why we are teachers in the first place. If we aren't excited and enthused it is for sure the students won't be so we need to bring both to our classes each time we teach. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Michelle, Keeping students engaged is always a challenge but one that can be met by being creative and seeking feedback from students. This is a way to improve the course delivery while expanding the learning options. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Sophia, Good point about knowing why the students are in school and what their career goals are. This way we can customize our instruction to support them as they progress through the content. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Michelle, Nice outline of what we instructors need to know about our students and how to challenge them as learners. By doing all of the components you list you will be preparing well informed and skilled students. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Vladimir, Good strategy. This keeps the students engaged and focused on the content. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
John, Good point. Student frustration is reduced when they have a clear understanding of the course policies, rules and expectations. Having this information lets the students focus on being successful in the course rather than spending their time trying to figure out what the instructor wants. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Sophia, Variety and change of pace are two essential components of successful instruction. Your comments are right on concerning the need to varying the different delivery methods. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
David, You have identified a nice flow to how you present content. You are showing your students the value of the content as well as application of it. This sets the stage for content retention and student satisfaction. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Vladimir, I like your approach because you are showing your students the value of the content in relation to their career goals. These connections are very important for students to get throughout the learning process. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
