About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Richard, How would you do this? Gary Dr. Gary Meers
James, Application and relevance are two important words in the learning process. If they understand how both of these words fit into the learning process they will be able retain the content and make use of the skills they are developing. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Paul, You are putting together a jigsaw puzzle of learning for your students. You are giving them a little at a time and they put these pieces together to the point that they see the big picture. This is a good way to keep the students engaged without overwhelming them with content. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Johan, Speakers like this help to motivate students and encourage their participation in the class. Guest speakers help to make the course content real and relevant. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Discussion Comment
Johan, Student feedback is a excellent source of course development and change. By listening to our students we can customize our teaching in a way that provides support as needed. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Paul, I like the way you approach your relationship with your students. You are providing them with support and encouragement and this will last through their career. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Cynthia, Good point and well said. Enthusiasm helps to see content and student engagement. We need to bring it to every class. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Sara, I agree. My adults students still like earning candy for answering questions. I believe adults are just taller children. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Johan, If we aren't enthusiastic it is for sure the students won't be. Excitement spreads so we need to generate it each time the class meets. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Frank, Thank you for the comments and good discussion about how to target your instruction and bring value to the content for the different student segments. Understanding how the real world works and what the work expectations are will show the students why the content that is being taught will be used in the future. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
