About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Brent, This is a comfortable and enjoyable way to get to know each other as everyone gets settled into the course. Then the students will be ready for you to cover the syllabus and course goals. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Pamela, I like the way you explain goals and objectives. I wish you and your students many happy and rewarding "bus rides". Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Hetty, Well said. They are the road map and/or GPS for the course. They keep the student moving forward with everyone knowing what the expectations are. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Stephen, You are working through a blend of instruction that involves both the content aspect as well as the human factor. This way the students get to observe and learn from a person that they can model their own careers after. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Pamela, Good definition and one that can be used to plan and impact the instructional process to do the things that you have listed. Thanks for sharing it with us. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Angie, This is one of the challenges of using a standardized syllabus from your school. Hopefully you have the opportunity to reconfigure the time lines to the point they are more realistic. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Kevin, I like your idea of taking the picture of what you have posted on the board. This reduces the "you didn't tell me" syndrome. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Kevin, Glad to hear the good words about the syllabi section. A well developed one sets the tone for the upcoming class and reduces students concerns. I wish you the best as you complete yours. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Kevin, This is an important strategy to follow. You have to maintain a balance for the students so they can complete their work while enjoying a learning environment that is supportive. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Deginald, These are good ideas about how to engage learners. Students like activities that get them engaged and using the newly acquired content. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
