About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Frank, I like the way you are incorporating the total person into your instructional planning. By "reading" body language, facial expressions and social interaction you are able to target your instruction to meet the needs of your students in a much more targeted manner. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Tracy, A very good point to remember. We need to display the human aspect so our students will be comfortable with approaching us for help and/or advice. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Qadar, I like the way you are blending the difference groups in your class as well as how you have them working together. You are creating a learning community for the students so they can learn, grow and benefit from each other. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Tracy, You make a good point that sometimes new instructors forget. We can't satisfy everyone. We need to know we have done our professional best as we end each class and use that as our own form of accountability. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Kevin, You have focused on a very important aspect of student success. They need to know they can be successful if they will put forth the effort. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Samone, What are some of the strategies you list that work most effectively for you? Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Jozanna, You have a good blend going for you. You are engaging the students with the delivery while helping them focus on the content as a result of the career experiences you are sharing with them. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Becky, You have a good model working for you. Change of pace and instructional variety are two important ingredients for teaching success. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Ken, Right you are. This approach will help to keep both the instructor and content fresh. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Carla, Good point. They need to understand that being a student is a full time job even though they are not being paid for it. So the more worker skills they can acquire the better prepared they will be to be successful in the workplace. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
