About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Alex, Student rapport helps to set the tone for the class as you say and this enhances the participation by all students in discussions and student interactions. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Joan, Good point. Enthusiasm and passion are two emotions that instructors need to bring to the class each time it meets. These two words are great ways to "sell" the content you are offering. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jennifer, It is for sure if you are not excited about your subject the students won't be either. So we need to bring our passion for our field to the class each time we meet. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Alex, This is a very good point. The students need to see the big picture of patient care and how their field fits within the big picture. This will help them to understand and work better with other departments and personnel when they are on the job. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jennifer, Good points and so important for students success. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Rhonda, Good points that reinforce what we know about learning. Feeling accepted in a class is so important for adult students. In addition if they know they have the support of the instructor they are motivated to achieve at a higher level. With early class success they are well on their way to achieving their goals. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ted, You hit on two of my favorite educational words. Relevancy and application. They are the core of what we do. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ted, A very well made point. Internal motivation is so powerful and can be lifelong if an individual truly believes in their abilities and skills. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Don, Good points about how and what to share about yourself as well as what you want to learn from your students as you start a new class. This exchange of information has a lot to do with how the course will proceed. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ted, Good point and one that we need to consider each time we enter the classroom/lab and look around. We need to make sure it is set up for learning. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
