About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Veronica, Good variety to your instructional delivery. This way you are keeping your students engaged throughout each class session and moving the class forward. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Veronica, This is a good way for everyone to get to know each other as well as giving the students time to get settled into the class and familiar with how you are going to conduct the sessions. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Veronica, As you say without a comprehensive plan you and the students won't know where the class is going and what is going to happen while the class is in session. This is not the way to be an educational leader yet many instructors try to teach this way. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lisa, Good way to be an educational leader because as you say the students follow your lead so it needs to be a professional one. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
James, All of these strategies can help you to expand your instructional delivery expertise. This is a great way to learn about new techniques and methods of sharing course content and to become more effective as an instructional delivery expert. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Letitia, Right you are about relevancy. If they see the relevancy and can make application the retention level of the content is going to be high. This makes teaching so enjoyable when it happens. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Letitia, Listening is such a powerful learning tool for both students and instructors. Having more information about the students helps us to more accurately target our instruction. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Shivani, What are some ways that you have found to be successful in introducing new teaching strategies. Thanks for your input on this. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Letitia, Passion, enthusiasm and excitement are words that need to be a part of our instructional delivery. You are right about the students seeing and becoming a part of using these words in their own class approach. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Letitia, I reinforce this point. We have to maintain the standards of the course if we are going to reflect the competencies needed in our field. To do anything less is unfair to the students and our field, especially their future employers. The employers have an expectation that comes from them successfully completing the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
