About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Roberta, Great to hear. I wish you much teaching success. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Vivian, Student input is a valuable resource so we need to use it when we can, plus it does motivate students as you mention. It keeps them engaged for the duration of the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Erika, Good advice for all instructors. Students need to feel accepted and valued if they are going to be successful. The more we can support them the higher their satisfaction with the course is going to be. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Vivian, I like your approach to the classroom. You are setting a standard for your students as well as bringing your passion for the field into the learning environment. I know the sets the tone for each class. Keep up the smile and excitement. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jim, Your first sentence says it all. This is where we must remain firm with our students and sometimes with our college. We must retain the standards of our field because we are producing individuals that will enter that field and they must be trained so they can be successful. One generation of failures and our program will be gone and as a result no one benefits. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Vivian, It sure does. This is why an effort needs to be made to help the different age groups interact with each other and develop respect for what each group brings to the class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Paul, This is a good observation. By having an understanding of the students you have in class you can target your instruction more accurately and keep them engaged at a higher level. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Michelle, Right you are about a the need for a positive first impression. It is so much easier to build on a positive first impression than to spend time digging out of a negative hole. With planning and organization the class will get off to a good start. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Patrick, That had to be a tough course to go through since you weren't sure where the professor was coming from or going to. I reinforce your point about the need for a well prepared syllabus. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Michelle, They are the road map (GPS) for the course and without them there will be no direction. We have to be clear and concise with our goals and objectives if we expect our students to see what they are to do. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
