About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Iris, Like your approach. You are coming with learning opportunities from several different directions and this will serve your students well. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Amy, Good way to touch on the different learning preferences your students are bringing to your class. This way they get to work in their comfort zones as well as learn how to learn in other venues. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Scott, Like the way you are comprehensive in your laying out the course expectations and requirement. This will reduce student frustrations in relation to claiming they don't know what they are suppose to do or where the course is going. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kamice, Your last sentence really puts together the value of a syllabus. It keeps everyone on target for the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ed, Great list of the reasons why effort needs to be put into developing a comprehensive syllabus. It is the road map (GPS?) for the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Denisse, Good professional development plan. I know it is going to work well for you. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kamice, Good comments about those students that don't step to the plate and become engaged in the learning process. Yes, they do make that choice and they have to live with the consequences. They need to see that it really is up to them to be successful. They can't blame others for their failure, even though they generally do. As a professional educator if you know you have done all you can do to help them in the course then you can feel confident in your efforts even if they don't take their educational opportunities seriously. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kamice, Good strategy. They need to have the confidence to do the job when they graduate. Knowing they can be successful will go a long way in their career success. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kamice, All of these effort contribute to an ongoing growth on the part of the students. They see that you are recognizing their effort and sharing valuable content with them. This is a part of the developmental process for students. Keep up the good work. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Maurice, This helps to shift the accountability for what is in the syllabus to the student. A brief quiz gives them into the syllabus at a much deeper level and this way you know they have reviewed all of the sections. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
