About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Autumn, Good way to inform the students as to how the course is going to function. By you sharing the expectations of the course in a clear and concise way the students will leave knowing what they need to do to be successful in the class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Courtney, Exactly and this is why planning needs to include how the first day will be conducted. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kim, This is the human factor in teaching and it is essential for the development of rapport with students. You are bringing excitement and value to the classroom for the students. In turn the students will be motivated to do their best in the class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ghaleb, So true and so important. Without a well prepared syllabus no body, including both instructor and students have any idea of what is going on. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jared, Good point about the value of a well prepared syllabus. An instructor would be better off not having a syllabus rather than handing out an outdated or incorrect one. Also, this takes credibility away from the instructor as you say if the syllabus is a mess. The students then wonder what else is wrong or going to be poorly done in the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Moses, Good strategies. Each class term results in more experience and more growth. I have been a teacher for many years and each course is a new experience from which I learn something new to offer my students next term. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ashley, Spoken like a dedicated and focused professional educator. I commend you for your passion and effort. Both of these are serving you and your students as well. Keep up the good work. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kim, Love your attitude and enthusiasm. Your personality sets the stage for learning success. Mix in your continual search for knowledge and you have the winning combination for effective teaching and learning. I wish you continued success with your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jennifer, This is a major issue with my students as well. I spend a lot of time helping them to see how they need to be able to professionally communicate in the work world if they are going to be successful. Keep up this most needed effort. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Christopher, Your last sentence should be the goal of career programs. Problem solving and critical thinking are two essential ingredients of career success. The more these two can be developed the greater success students are going to enjoy. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
