About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Jeremy, Everyone benefits from this format. With a regular lecture it is easy for students to slip their minds into neutral and just sit there and let the instructor drone on. This approach gets them involved throughout the session. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Caryn, You have quite a task. That is a lot of material to cover. Sounds like you have developed a host of strategies that enable you to get through the material while engaging the students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kelly, This is what good instruction is about. You were able to learn from your previous students in a way that enables you now to be responsive the learning preferences of your current students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ashley, Good way to engage everybody plus I am sure the students really like being a part of these different activities. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jeremy, This is such a "big picture" approach. By knowing everything being taught revolves around these categories you giving them "memory pegs" on which to hang the cognitive and tactile components of the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kelly, I like this approach as you are showing the students what it takes for success in the course and they are charting their own destiny by signing the guide to success. This creates a foundation for engagement which will help them to achieve success. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ashley, This is a good way to get student involvement and buy in from the beginning of the class. Thanks for sharing this idea. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Seth, What kind of format do you use to solicit their responses? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Marilyn, This is a very good approach allowing you to share your human side as well as your professional experience. This sets the stage for a positive and forward focused class that has the students feeling comfortable and involved in the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Caryn, This is so important in establishing the foundation for the development of respect and rapport. Good strategy, thanks for sharing it with us. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
