About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Joseph, You are right on with your understanding of how to construct instructional deliveries. The more you can engage the senses and offer application of newly acquired knowledge the greater the retention will be of the key concepts. So your approach is a sound one based upon learning theory. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jacqueline, Learners like to apply newly acquired knowledge and you are helping them to do that. The more they can see application the more relevancy they see with the content. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Blanche, You make a very good point about how you are relating your own life experiences and career success to those of your students. They can see that you have been there and know what they are going through. This sets the stage for development of rapport with them and this will increase their chances of success in your course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Blanche, I think you are really going to like the results you get from using this strategy. It has worked really well for me for many years. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Shamika, This is so sad but not uncommon in higher education. The good news is that you have these experiences in your background so you can take them and create your own way of relating to and supporting your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Shamika, Right you are about why it is important to know why your students are enrolled in the program. This helps you to focus your support and customize your interaction with each student. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jacqueline, Trust is such a powerful emotion and hopefully all instructors work to develop it with their students. With trust comes respect and with respect comes rapport. Each builds on the other and at the end success is achieved. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jennifer, Good way to start off a class. You get your students problem solving and working together from the very beginning. This is what they are going to experience in the work world so they need to learn how to work together as students so they can transfer these skills to their careers. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Wendy, You are helping your students to learn using variety and learners need variety to stay engaged. I complement you for your effort as a new instructor and the learning resources you are introducing to your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jeffrey, We appreciate your kind remarks about the course and how it has been of value to you. I wish you much success as you continue your teaching career. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
