About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Carole, You make a number of very good points and support the development of students. Their ability to function in the work setting involves personal as well as professional skill development. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mike, This is an ongoing struggle. I am faced with this every time I teach. I work hard to provide positive learning opportunities for my students. I am sad when I don't reach a student but I know that I have done all I can do professionally to help that person and at that point the learning rests on them and their commitment to their future. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mike, Enthusiasm and passion for your field is important in helping students to see the value of what you are teaching. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mike, This puts you in a position of being a model for your students and I commend you for the way you are modeling the behavior you want from your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Stephen, Right you are. This has been my experience as well. Being a tactile learning myself I can really appreciate your comments about how different fields attract certain types of learners. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Annie, Also through variety you will have a higher level of engagement from your students because they like variety and change of pace. This way they get to use their different processing venues to acquire the content and skills they need. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Justine, Students really like to hear stories about their field. These stories keep them engaged as well help them to see that their instructors have lived through what they are being taught. We are all former students ourselves but many of our students don't realize this. We have been where they now sit. Our stories from the field reinforce why they are being taught what they are. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Marie, Your classes sound fun and I know your students enjoy having the opportunity to demonstrate not only their knowledge but also their creativity. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jean, I like the approach you are using to communicate with your students. This way the students know they have a caring instructor that will provide them with support if they will put forth the effort. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Janet, Good point about how to stay fresh in your content and excited about teaching. We need to continue our professional development so we can offer our knowledge and experience to help our students move closer to their stated career goals. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
